American Disposal Service

The Town of Haymarket provides trash and recycling refuse twice a week for its residents through a contract with American Disposal Services. Please ensure that your trash and recycling are set out the night before your scheduled pick-up day.

Trash Pickup: Mondays and Thursdays

Trash and Recycling

All trash and recycling must be placed in an American Disposal Services trash cart or a standard trash can. Residents are responsible for maintaining and cleaning their containers. Trash carts and recycling bins remain the property of American Disposal Services and are provided to residents for the duration of service. American Disposal is not responsible for damaged, missing, or stolen trash carts or for damage to personal trash cans.  If you are a new resident and need a Trash Tote and/or Recycle bin, please call the Town at 703-753-2600 ext. 203.

Recyclable Items - Acceptable items include: Aluminum cans, aluminum foil & trays rinsed & cleaned, metal food & beverage cans, plastic containers #1, #2, & #5 including bottles, wide-mouth plastic containers & rigid plastics.  Newspapers, mixed paper, junk mail, magazines, phone books & catalogs.  Empty aerosol cans.  Cardboard, paperboard (including cereal boxes without the lining and frozen food packages, etc.), and corrugated cardboard.  Moving boxes are recyclable & must be broken down, flattened, and placed out with recycling collection. Do not use plastic bags for recycling.       *These items may be commingled in the same recycling container.

Items not collected-

Flammable products and liquids, gasoline, oil, paint cans, tires, animal carcasses, manure, tree stumps, dirt, stone, rock, brick, lead, acid/wet cell batteries, railroad ties, toxic materials, bio-hazardous materials or waste,  propane/oxygen/helium tanks, items containing gas such as freon, explosives, live ammunition or weapons, large amounts of animal waste, oversize brush, (longer than four feet in length or six inches in diameter), bags weighing more than 50 pounds or any items that cannot be safely loaded by our crews for removal or any items that may damage our hauling equipment.

Yard Waste Pickup:

Our contract with American Disposal includes the pick up of yard waste which residents may place out year-round on Mondays with their regular trash collection. Grass clippings & leaves should be bagged in bio-degradable paper bags or personal trash can marked “Yard Waste”.  Yard waste in plastic bags WILL NOT be picked up. Brush & limbs should be bundled and tied with rope or twine.  Individual limbs or branches should not exceed 5 feet in length and 3 inches in diameter.  Items that are bagged or bundled are not to exceed 50 lbs.  A maximum of ten bundles of tree limbs and brush per pick up and a maximum of ten bags of leaves per pick up.  Concrete, bricks, blocks, rocks, stones, dirt, mulch, & sod are not acceptable.

Bulk Pick Up

Bulk pickup is by appointment only on Thursdays. Scheduling bulk trash pickup is simple. You can request your pickup online, contact American Disposal Services via their mobile app, or call their customer service team. They'll guide you through the process and confirm your pickup date.

American Disposal may occasionally need to cancel or delay collection services due to weather, disasters, emergencies, or other uncontrollable circumstances. Areas that remain unserviceable will be delayed until it is safe for their crews to operate. During service delays, their crews will run all accessible routes as normal and continue into the next day until the route is complete.
